Gardening can be an excellent way to stay fit, providing you don't injure yourself. In this class we will discuss safety tips to help you enjoy your day of gardening without sore muscles or injuries. We'll cover pre-gardening stretches, head to toe protection, the safe use of gas, electric and battery-operated gardening equipment, the safe use of chemicals, as well as props and ergonomic tools that can be used to make gardening tasks more comfortable.

Marlene can also be found bi-monthly on Good Day Sacramento where she is known as "The Plant Lady". Her garden column is in the Sacramento Bee bimonthly. In addition, she has a podcast called Flower Power Garden Hour where she talks with guests on all things plants and gardening.
We have a great selection of classes to choose from (20 to be exact) brought to you by our Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers and a few special guests. We have added more make and take classes this year and will have our information tables set up during lunch to answer your gardening questions. Ever since Sharon Beals learned about the decline in bird populations due to habitat loss, her love of nature and curiosity has led her on a quest to learn how birds can flourish in nature and gardens.  A recent estimate of insect apocalypse, in decline by 70 percent, has had a direct correlation with an alarming drop in bird populations.  Sustaining insect populations will aid in the survival of bird populations since an astounding 96 percent are insectivores.  Even the hummers sipping on floral nectar need a serving of insect protein.  Creating habitat in our gardens will contribute towards a healthier and more beautiful world for birds, bugs and all.  Daisy Mah will talk about perennials and Stan "The Tool Man" Logan will cover 15 garden tools.
